Research Scientist (m/f) 

to join our expanding Research  team in our Munich , Germany (DE) office.



  • Research and development of state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning algorithms for computer vision and data mining
  • Application to the profiling of cancer patients based on medical imaging (CT, MRI, PET) and histopathology data (H&E, IHC, IF, IMC)
  • Scientific publications and oral conference presentations.
  • Work in the scientific research team with close collaborations with other departments (e.g. product development, services) as well as with industry partners and academic.
  • Collaboration with product development and consulting department for integrating the developed algorithms into Definiens products
  • Development of machine learning based functional prototypes to correlate imaging data (CT, MRI, PET) with tissue and clinical data
  • Data curation and annotation in collaboration with domain experts (radiologists, pathologists).
  • Publication of results in high ranked journals and at conferences


Qualifications and Skills: 

  • M.Sc. degree in computer sciences, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics or comparable degree, with a focus on machine learning and deep learning.
  • Ph.D. degree in one of the above field is preferred
  • 3+ years of experience working on image and/or data analysis problems using Python and related technologies.
  • 2+ year of experience working on machine learning problems, using classical (e.g. SVM, Random Forest) and deep learning (e.g. CNNs, RNNs) approaches.
  • Proven track record of scientific publications and conference contributions in the field of machine learning for computer vision imaging and/or data analysis.
  • An experience working with medical and clinical data is beneficial.
  • Talent to conceptualize, create and implement novel scientific ideas aligned with corporate strategy.
  • Good conceptual knowledge of latest advances in the field of machine learning
  • Very good proficiency in Python and related technologies, including proficiency in one of the standard deep learning libraries (e.g. Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Good knowledge on the standard Python libraries (e.g. NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib), computer vision libraries (e.g. OpenCV, ITK), machine learning libraries (e.g. scikit-learn) and parallel computing (e.g. multiprocessing).
  • Ability to work within multi-national, multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
